French 1 – College Preparatory I
This course introduces students to the basic speech patterns and expressions of language that will provide a foundation for the development of communication skills - listening, speaking, reading and writing. Students will use computers and visuals to enhance interaction and cultural awareness.
French 2 – College Preparatory I
This course builds upon the basic language skills acquired in French 1. Students will develop a greater variety of French expressions and vocabulary with expanded focus on entertainment, music, weather, health, and other daily language expressions. A teacher recommendation is required.
French 3 – College Preparatory I
This course aims to further develop and reinforce the four basic language skills acquired in French 1 and 2. Additional language profi ciency is reinforced through classroom discussions, tapes and projects. French culture and civilization is studied through readings of French literature and research available through computer technology. Students work on writing and conversation skills. A teacher recommendation is required.
French 4 – College Preparatory I
This course builds on previous studies in grammar, conversation and culture. A teacher recommendation is required. Emphasis is on the advanced development of French profi ciency.
Spanish 1 – College Preparatory I
This course is designed to introduce students to basic speech and expression in Spanish that will provide a foundation for the development of communication skills. Students will use a variety of visuals and computer technology to foster introduction and enhance cultural awareness.
Spanish 2 – College Preparatory I
This course builds upon basic skills introduced in Spanish 1. Emphasis is placed on the development of communication skills by reinforcing and expanding Spanish expressions in discussions and interviews. Grammar skills are expanded through projects and writing assignments.
Spanish 3 – College Preparatory I
This course is designed to build upon previously acquired speaking, listening, writing, and comprehension skills developed in Spanish 1 and Spanish 2. Oral recitation and expression is an integral component of this course, along with a more intensive vocabulary and grammar study. Emphasis on language, relevancy and application to everyday life experiences, interests and the job world is stressed. There is attention to significant Spanish literary contributions and a focus on cultural differences, thus motivating students to participate in local and global communities. A teacher recommendation is required.
Spanish 4 – College Preparatory I
Students will study more advanced grammar with the emphasis on reading and writing. The literature studied will be appropriate to the previous language experience of the students. Students will complete projects related to their vocational studies. A teacher recommendation is required.
